This workshop will address issues relating to developments in the area of assistive robots, including the technologies which allow more efficient robot performance, human-robot interaction and communication aspects towards a more natural human-machine collaboration, as well as the user perspective in designing and evaluating assistive devices.

A primary goal of assistive robots is to become more efficient and more user friendly, especially by increasing user confidence and motivation. These tasks require enhancement of various integratable technologies and advanced communication strategies. In this landscape, end-user validation is heavily based on the systems’ motivation and human-like HRI characteristics, which, in principle, target intuitive human-robot communication and cooperation by exploiting a full spectrum of human communication and sensory-motor channels and strategies.

  • Multimodal interfaces
  • End-user design requirements and validation strategies


This workshop aims to provide a meeting point for the multidisciplinary community of researchers addressing the different aspects that contribute towards making assistive robots accepted by their end users. Thus, a constructive dialogue is expected among groups involved in robot engineering, HRI, rehabilitation and validation of prototypes.
